BACKGROUND

Manufacturing in the 21st century is looking very much different today, and will continue to grow with time. The Department of Manufacturing and Industrial engineering was established in the early 1980s and still continues to fulfil the various needs from the manufacturing, industrial and services industry, metallurgy/materials engineering in Malaysia. As one of the premier brand name in the region, we are capable of rapidly adopting our physical and intellectual infrastructures in order to exploit the on-going changes in technology and consumer based Malaysia and global markets. These needs are not only concerned on harnessing a wider skill based with highly qualified future engineers, leaders and managers whose expertise would combine both commercial and technical acumen, typically in various areas of research, innovativeness, state-of-the-art technology and knowledge; to achieve a sustainable future environment. Other than our own PERDANA program, the department were also actively involved in the service course to various faculties and schools. Amongst them are Faculty of Management, Faculty of Education, School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE), UTM Razak School of Engineering and Advanced Technology and School of Post Graduate studies which falls under PESISIR programme. Due to the major restructuring of university’s management hierarchy has resulted in the merging with the Department of Materials Engineering. Since then, the Manufacturing, Industrial and Materials panels are united into one unit called the Department of Materials, Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering since the end of the year 2012.
