The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, in collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic, successfully organised the SULAM-LEX FKM–SP 2026 programme from 6 to 17 April 2026 at Kampung Sungai Melayu, Iskandar Puteri. The initiative brought together students and participants from both institutions in a meaningful programme that combined academic learning with direct community engagement.

Through a series of collaborative activities, participants were given the opportunity to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to real community settings. The programme encouraged students to work closely with local residents, understand community needs and develop practical solutions while strengthening their communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

SULAM-LEX FKM–SP 2026 also served as a platform for cross-cultural learning and international collaboration. By bringing together students from Malaysia and Singapore, the programme promoted the exchange of ideas, perspectives and experiences, while fostering stronger ties between UTM and Singapore Polytechnic.

Beyond academic development, the initiative highlighted the importance of social responsibility and sustainable community development. It demonstrated how university-industry and international academic partnerships can contribute meaningfully to society through experiential and service-based learning.

The programme reflects FKM’s continued commitment to nurturing well-rounded graduates who are not only technically competent, but also socially aware, adaptable and prepared to contribute positively to communities at both local and regional levels.
