Our Facilities

We provide world-class research facilities to conduct high impact researches.

Background

High Speed Reacting Flow Laboratory (HiREF) was founded in 2017 to study the phenomenon of detonation, a form of supersonic combustion by Prof Dr Mazlan Abdul Wahid. Since then, it has upgraded to cover research on novel flame techniques which now include carbon nanotube synthesis via pyrolysis and flameless combustion among others.

List of Facilities

Quasi-Prolysis Chamber

Flame Synthesis of Carbon Nanotubes research are conducted in this test rig, with up to date mass flow controllers for fuel and oxidizers for more accurate and precise data.

Rotating Detonation Engine

Located in a soundproof chamber at the back of the lab, two 46 mm by 46 mm engines are setup for experimenting on the fundamentals of RDEs and thermal management respectively.

Flameless Combustion Chamber

Combustion chambers of various sizes are used to experiment on flameless combustion. Fuels under study include syngas and biogas.

With these facilities we provide a wide range of analytical of combustion research.
