From 6th to 10th May 2025, the Indonesia–UTM Marine Technology Excursion 2025 (I-MARTEX’25) marked a significant milestone in international maritime collaboration. The program was proudly organized by TEKNOMARIN (Marine Technology Student Society, UTM) under the supervision of Dr. Arifah, and hosted by the Department of Marine Engineering, Faculty of Marine Technology, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya). It brought together students from the Bachelor of Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering, UTM, to experience a dynamic mix of academic, industrial, and cultural engagement. Among the highlights were the Colloquium on Research Development in Marine Engineering, Lab Tours covering six key facilities Hydrodynamic, Structural, Offshore, Electric, Reliability Analysis, and Marine Design laboratories.
This initiative gave UTM students invaluable exposure to real-world marine technology applications, including technical sharing sessions, marine engineering short courses, and industrial visits to PT Orela shipyard, the Indonesia Hydrodynamic Laboratory (IHL), and the National Ship Design and Engineering Center (NaSDEC). Beyond academics, students took part in a community outreach program in Kampung Nelayan Brondong focused on SDG awareness, and enjoyed the beauty and culture of East Java through an exploration trip to Mount Bromo and the Surabaya Heritage & Innovation Tour. This multifaceted excursion equipped participants with both professional insights and cross-cultural perspectives essential for their development as future naval architects and offshore engineers.
Aside from that, the program also contributed to the accreditation efforts, as a benchmarking meeting was held on 7th May 2025. The meeting involved three lecturers from the Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering program at UTM Dr. Arifah, Dr. Farah Ellyza, and Prof. Ab. Saman who engaged with counterparts from the Department of Naval Architecture and the Department of Marine Engineering at ITS. The session was successful and provided many valuable insights into both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Special thanks to Departemen Sistem Perkapalan (Siskal), Faculty of Marine Technology, ITS Surabaya for the warm hospitality, and to UTM International for the generous financial support that made this initiative possible. I-MARTEX’25 stands as a proud achievement for TEKNOMARIN under Dr. Arifah’s guidance, showcasing the spirit of student leadership and global collaboration.
